Oct 1st - Save Money-Save Energy: What's Next for Massachusetts?: Mount Wachusett Community College's Center for Democracy & Humanity, The Trustees' Putnam Conservation Institute, and Hannaford Supermarkets host the event which lasts from 6pm to 8pm. Massachusetts Dept. of Energy Resources (DOER) Commissioner Philip Giudice will talk about the Green Communities Act and DOER's role in this initiative, as well as the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (REGI) and projects targeting North Central Massachusetts and under-represented constituents within the context of sustainability. The event will be held at The Trustees of Reservations' Doyle Conservation Center in Leominster, MA. Admission is free, and there will be complimentary hors d'oeuvres. Oct 3rd (Oct 3 to Oct 4) - Pollination Issues Conference: Located at the UMASS Campus Center, this year's Conference will be open to the public, particularly scientists and naturalists, farmers and gardeners, concerned citizens and educators, and representatives from local, state and national agencies and non-governmental organizations that manage lands. The Conference objectives include: 1) to provide up to date information on pollinator issues, pollinator status, threats, and research methods; 2) to inform landowners and managers about practices that sustain pollinators; 3) to inform participants about existing outreach efforts, including partnerships, citizen science, and education. Oct 6th - Ocean Plan Public Listening Sessions: These public forums are an opportunity for the public to weigh in on the development of the first in the nation plan to manage the waters off the state's coast, as mandated by the passage of The Oceans Act. The first of eleven forums will be held at the New Bedford Public Library on 613 Pleasant St. in New Bedford. All public listening sessions will start at 7:00 pm.
Oct 8th - Ocean Plan Public Listening Session II: Forum will be held at the Fall River Heritage State Park on 100 Davol St. in Fall River. All public listening sessions will start at 7:00 pm.
Oct 11th - Conference on Global Climate Change: Hosted by the Massachusetts School of Law (MSL) from 8:30am to 4:30pm, the conference will bring together nationally renowned experts on all aspects of the issue. These presenters will help attendees understand the scope of the problem; the threats it presents to our health and national security; and the ways in which we can adopt a more sustainable lifestyle. Oct 21st - Ocean Plan Public Listening Session VI: Forum will be held at the Redfield Auditorium on 53 Water St. in Woods Hole. All public listening sessions will start at 7:00 pm.
Oct 22nd - Fall Meeting of the Environmental Collaborative Organizations: The Fall Environmental Collaborative meeting will be held from 2pm to 5pm, at the beautiful New England Foundation for the Arts (NEFA) building in Boston at 145 Tremont Street, 7th Floor. The agenda will be split among a legislative wrap-up of the hugely successful session that just ended, a brainstorming session on priority bills, and a discussion about the Environmental League of Massachusetts' (ELM) plans for a new grassroots environmental lobbying campaign that we want to include YOU in. Immediately folllowing the meeting, ELM will co-host a reception in honor of retiring Senator and long-time champion of environmental causes Pamela Resor. To RSVP call 617-742-2553.

Oct 29th - Ocean Plan Public Listening Session X: Forum will be held at the Pittsfield Public Library on 1 Wendell Ave. in Pittsfield. All public listening sessions will start at 7:00 pm.
Oct 30th - Economic Benefits of Open Space and Land Conservation: Who doesn't like having parks in their communities? But when budgets get tight, are those natural areas worth it? This workshop reveals the methods and numbers that repeatedly show how parks and open space are not liabilities but rather community assets that produce a better return on investment than development. Municipal staff and board members who want to know how conserving land affects a community's finances will find this workshop particularly helpful, as will community advocates who want more facts to strengthen the case for conservation. The event will be sponsored by the Trustees' Putnam Conservation Institute. It will be held at the Bristol County Agricultural High School from 7pm to 8:30pm. Admission is free.
